Artist Spotlight: Amy Sherald

Posted on

We care and we think you should to. Have you heard about the American artist the Obama's chose to paint their official portraits?

(Happy to inform you)

Amy Sherald, the first African American AND first woman artist to ever win the National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition (she was picked out of about 2,500 other competitors... so yea, it's a big deal).

Amy Sherald started off painting nature but took a quick turn and started to take on social context once she moved to Baltimore. With her work she takes a closer look on how people construct and perform their identities due to the political, social, and cultural expectations the world made for them.

Sherald’s art contains such brilliant color choices that  have gave us major inspiration for our up coming collection. (See below one of her brilliant works of art)
